Cadet Sweets (Slough)

Cadet Sweets (along with Comet Sweets) was a subsidiary of Paramount Laboratories of Slough, Berkshire, and was primarily a maker of the sweet cigarettes we all loved as kids.
During the lifetime of the Cadet Sweets Brand the company produced some of the best loved and highly collectable trade cards representing TV in the 1950’s and 60’s, including Dr. Who and the Daleks, Stingray, UNCLE, Adventures of Rin Tin Tin and Daktari, as well as several sets of Footballers cards in the late 1950’s.
Paramount Laboratories was taken over by Sir James Goldsmith in 1964, and on 1965 was combined under the Cavenham Foods brand along with several other companies Goldsmith had recently taken over, including Hollands Toffees Ltd (Southport) and Yeatmans of London (producers of Goodies and Selesta). Cavenham was subsequently taken over by the directors in 1981, and then sold on to Imperial Tobacco in 1985 as a part of their Imperial Foods subsidiary. Numerous takeovers and name changes have since taken place.
There is little history of Cadet Sweets available, so if you have any interesting snippets/pictures/ephemera please do forward them and we would be delighted to include on our site. If you have any items you might be interested in selling, again please do let us know.
